On July 24, 2025, at the initiative of the Afghanistan Microfinance Association, a seminar was conducted by Dr. Ashraf Mohammad Dawaba, a professor at the Afghan International Islamic University, titled: “Islamic Microfinance and Its Role in Economic Empowerment: Challenges and Opportunities.”
The seminar was specifically organized for members of the Shariah boards and Shariah advisors of microfinance institutions. It focused on the role, challenges, and opportunities of Islamic microfinance, as well as the design and implementation of new Shariah compliant products.
The event emphasized the core principles and objectives of Islamic microfinance and the importance of Shariah compliance. Discussions also addressed the role of microfinance in promoting justice and enhancing financial inclusion.
Another key session was dedicated to exploring the responsibilities of Shariah board members and advisors, including the principles that must be considered during product development, implementation, and Shariah supervision.
Participants engaged in both academic and practical discussions on Shariah principles, product structures, and contemporary challenges. It was emphasized that Shariah supervision must be proactive, specialized, and responsive to evolving market needs.
Special thanks to OXUS Microfinance Institution for hosting the seminar and providing comprehensive logistical support.
