On July 8, 2025, the AMA team held a meeting with representatives from the IFC (World Bank Group) in Kabul. During the meeting, AMA delivered a concise presentation outlining its role and key activities within the microfinance sector. The presentation highlighted both the challenges and opportunities currently facing the sector in Afghanistan.
AMA also discussed the evolving regulatory landscape, including the central bank’s (Da Afghanistan Bank) new oversight of the sector. Notably, the conversation addressed the central bank’s initiative to issue business licenses to new Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) at the national, regional, and provincial levels.
The IFC team conducted an assessment of the program’s implementation and identified areas where MFIs require further support to enhance the delivery of effective financial services to low-income communities across the country.
