On July 17, 2025, the Afghanistan Microfinance Association (AMA) organized a meeting with the legal representatives of its member institutions to discuss common legal challenges in the sector and identify areas needing improvement.
During the meeting, participants emphasized several key points:
· Legal cases involving microfinance institutions (MFIs) should be given priority in the courts to ensure timely resolution.
· The process of verifying assets at municipal offices should be simplified.
· The General Directorate of Legal Affairs should cooperate with MFIs to reduce the time spent on addressing legal cases.
· Police department support should be available when needed.
AMA aims to engage with relevant government departments to streamline these processes and reduce bureaucratic delays. These delays often lead to increased costs for MFIs, particularly in resolving default loan cases. By addressing these challenges, AMA seeks to support its member institutions in achieving financial sustainability.
Additionally, this initiative will enable member institutions to consider expanding their operations and delivering equitable financial services across the country.
